Dehradun, June 26:
National Agricultural Bank and Rural Development (NABARD) will fund projects worth Rs. 400 crore in the current financial year in the State. The fund would be utilized for constructions of roads under PWD; tubewells, canals under Irrigation Department and hydro-power projects under Power Department.
Chief Secretary Alok Kumar Jain chairing the meeting of the Committee of NABARD at Secretariat on Tuesday directed the officers concerned to prepare DPRs on time. He expected suggestions from the NABARD on their contribution towards development of the State. The Chief Secretary approved projects for PWD worth Rs. 300 crore, Irrigation Department worth Rs. 150 crore and that for Power Department worth Rs. 127 crore. He instructed the PWD officers to constitute a Cell of Mechanical Engineers for construction of Ropeways and trained them in ropeway construction. He asked the Irrigation Department Officers to prepare DPR of Lift Irrigation Projects besides that of tubewells and canals. He directed the Power Department to bear the expenses of the interest to be paid against the fund received from NABARD. He said that Jal Vidyut Nigam would construct 3 hydro-power projects of 23 MW capacity. These projects would begin generating power by 2017.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary PWD S Raju, Secretary Finance Radha Raturi, Additonal Secretary Finance Ramesh Chandra Aggarwal and other senior officers.
