All the old power projects would be strengthened to increase their capacity under Renovation, Modernization and Uprating (RMU)


All the old power projects would be strengthened to increase their capacity under Renovation, Modernization and Uprating (RMU) so that more electricity could be generated from them. Uttarakhand Jal Vidhyut Nigam Limited Chairman Subhash Kumar said that he had a detailed telephonic conversation with Union Energy Secretary P Umashankar at Delhi on Saturday.
Mr. Kumar said that the Union Secretary has consented for Renovation, Modernization and Uprating of Chhibro Khodri, Dhalipur, Dhakrani, Kulhal and Tiloth-Maneribhali phase-I project located at Uttarkashi under RMU. He said that presently 20290 MU power was being generated from these projects and after the renovation work additional 250 MU power would be generated.
Mr. Kumar apprised that for the renovation, modernization and uprating of these projects, with consent of the Government of India, MoU was signed between Power Finance Corporation and German Company KFQ in 2005 and the project worth Rs. 600 crore was prepared but no progress was made since then so far. Mr. Kumar said that he had discussed the matter with Union Energy Secretary and he had assured to get it approved from Finance Ministry.
Mr. Kumar told the Union Secretary that in the situation when no works on hydro-power projects were going on at River Ganga and Bhagirathi, it has become necessary to renovate and modernize the existing projects in the state to meet the power demand. The Union Secretary has also assured to provide loan of Rs. 600 crore in easy installments for these works.
