Koteshwar-Jhandidhar pumping project has started supplying water to 102 villages from June 1 onwards. The Rs. 1247.33 project under Devprayag and Tehri constituency was sanctioned in 2005.
Peyjal Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani has asked the departmental officers to complete other drinking water projects in similar way. He appreciated the officers and workers for the hard works they had put up to complete the project in stipulated time frame. He said that the inauguration of the project would be done by the Chief Minister in near future. Mr. Naithani said that the government was serious towards providing water to the people and all the arrangements in this direction had been completed. The Minister said that completion works of other projects including Sajwan Kanda-Silkakhal, Lachmoli, Hadimkidhar, Devprayag, Akriwarjula, Pratapnagar, Pauri and Pithoragarh had been speed up and was expected to complete in the stipulated time. Mr. Naithani, on the other hand, has urged the general public to conserve water. He said that the department was also chalking out action plan to preserve natural water resources and conservation of water from falls and streams.
Mr. Naithani said that owing to non expenditure of fund provided by the Centre in 2010-11 state had to face great loss. Mr. Naithani said that he had assured Union Government to spend the allocated fund in the stipulated time. He said that the Union Minister Jayram Ramesh had agreed to give bonus amount to Uttarakhand for drinking water projects if State succeeded in utilizing the allocated fund well in time.
